Inclusion & Diversity Training

INCLUSION FIRST.
DIVERSITY WILL FOLLOW.

Inclusion & Diversity Training

Building Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices into your daily business operations leads to increased feelings of loyalty, belonging and community. We know that diversity is inherent in every workplace; even ones that seem to be homogeneous. The issue comes from organizations that celebrate and reward same-ness (intentionally or not) because same-ness leads to stagnation – a death knell in our rapidly changing, globally referencing world. The goal is to remove the systematic and structural roadblocks that prevent diversity from flourishing and contributing to a culture of equity, teamwork, and success so that individual natural differences can contribute to group thinking and create stronger, more successful outcomes.

Working through my Strategic Consultancy firm, KITC Consulting, I offer a variety of ways to help organizations and individuals “listen to all voices”; invest in a culture of inclusion, equity, and belonging and find their own paths toward commitment and success.

Non-Defensive Conversations about Injustice

This training focuses on building an individual’s capacity to listen to, participate in and facilitate conversations about race, gender, and sexual orientation without giving in to defensive mechanisms (e.g. minimizing, dismissing, confronting, shaming, and/or controlling behaviors.) Building your internal capacity for engaging in challenging conversations is a key step in making change, building social resilience and recognizing the shared humanity in us all.

Where we come from: Understanding how supporting Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion is central to everyone’s success.

This transformative workshop is designed to show participants that while there is no single experience of “race” there are underlying, systemic inequities that affect groups of people in ways that both disadvantage them and uphold them REGARDLESS of their complicit understanding of the dynamics. You and your team can expect to have dialogue about unconscious bias and intersectionality as you hear personal stories from peers in the
Workshop as well as learn more about the negative impact race-based stress and/or micro-aggressions have on daily experiences.

Understanding biases and managing assumptions when working in Groups
This series of trainings help participants learn more about their specific approach to group interactions – what they assume their role to be and how to manage confusion and/or uncertainty when others in the group feel differently. Effective Group Work (EGW) is quickly becoming the most important indicator of whether or not organizations can create a Culture of Belonging that takes root and lasts. Because decision making is fundamentally impacted by unconscious bias, groups need a way to identify and manage uneasiness caused by opaque and/or misunderstood directions. A structured, clear, comprehensive communication system is required to surface these biases authentically and honestly so they can be acknowledged and addressed. Powerful non-Defensive Communication (www.pndc.com) provides this framework as well as examples to aid in understanding and facilitating group decision making.
